The African art of Appearance

An exploration of fashion and textiles through the lens of the Nigerian diaspora. It focusses on Esan tribal traditions, concepts of femininity and studies of cultural authentication.

This collection is a love letter to my Nigerian and Esan tribal heritage. I found it was a deeply personal project and while creating it, I immersed myself into the study of Nigerian fashion history, experimentation with traditional textiles and research into how Nigerian women express themselves today”.

Many of the textile and beading techniques used in this project are inspired by centuries old artefacts that have been passed down through generations of Nigerian artisans.
